Latest Covid update

We just wanted to send an update on what we know and where we stand at the moment.

Firstly, we cannot undertake training at present unless it is for a key worker with an emergency driving test booked (or DVSA are in receipt of a test booking). So we are still on hold. The following is an extract from a letter we received from the DVSA last night:

Driving instruction and driving tests

Other than emergency training and tests for critical workers, driving instruction and driving tests have not yet been able to restart because the risk of transmission of the virus in vehicles is higher.

In his statement on 10 June, the Prime Minister reiterated that the government will remain cautious and measure the effect of the changes it makes. The Prime Minister explained this means moving slower than we’d have liked in some areas.

Driving instruction and tests will only restart when the government is confident that the assessment of risk warrants it, subject to the 5 tests and further detailed scientific advice.

In the meantime, I want to re-emphasise that you should continue to limit driving lessons to critical workers who are preparing for an emergency driving test.

Once again, I would like to thank those of you who have been able to offer driving lessons to critical workers during these unprecedented times.

We will, of course, share more information with you as soon as it’s available – including the dates that driving instruction and driving tests can restart.

So nothing really new there. We have attended a webinar with the DIA today and suggests there are some plans to ’try’ and extend some theory test certificates but that is very difficult, they are trying to add it to the Covid act. we will have to wait and see.

Once we do return we will have amended our terms and conditions in relation to Covid and these will be published onto the website nearer to the time.

All driving tests are on hold at present (other than emergency). DVSA are building a new booking system at present and those that have had their tests moved will get priority bookings. If we have booked the test I will get an email with details to rebook, if you booked you will get the same. Please confirm with us before rebooking any new dates.

If we were to guess (and its only a guess) it would be the middle of July before we can restart.

Just a footnote: Please be aware that if you are carrying out private practice with family members on none essential journeys you can be stopped and fined. This has happened and was brought to our attention today during the webinar.

Hope you are well and we really look forward to seeing you soon.
